Scala Sancta (Holy Stairs)

Consisting of twenty-eight white marble steps, at Rome, near the Lateran; according to tradition the staircase leading once to the prętorium of Pilate at Jerusalem, hence sanctified by the footsteps of Our Lord during his Passion.
