just asking... my friends say that they've never even SEEN a street lamp burn out !!
(... "they're industrial strength , heavy duty lamps, and its very rare"... they say )
Yet, I witness this at least a couple of times a week....

I have had that experience many times before. Usually traveling on the freeway (especailly on a stretch on I75). I always thought that maybe it was some kind of camera that was inside that would take pictures of people going over the speed limit (since I always travleled a little faster than I should on that stretch of highway) and the light would go out just before you pass under it so the camera could take a clear picture of your license plate (atleast this is what I believed). Until I notice that the particular light (It's usually just one light in a string of lights that does this and it's always the same light) would never go out if there were more than several cars in a cluster. Since I get off of work early in the morning it's usually just me (with the occasional trucker from time to time) and seems to happen quite often. Sometimes the light is already out when I get there. It's funny to hear this happen to someone else.

this has never happened to me, at all.

but lately i have witnessed a lot of street lamps around where i live dimming to the point of going out. but whatever.

By Brian on Thursday, January 3, 2002 - 11:19 pm:

I looked into it and this is a psychic ability called Electrokinesis

By Aprilp999 on Thursday, January 3, 2002 - 11:26 pm:

I actually have lights turn on and off sometimes when Im around... but its been happening since I was a kid and I dont notice it until someone else mentions it. Nothing else happens tho... nothing floating around etc.

By Brian on Saturday, January 26, 2002 - 06:58 pm:

gee, thank you for mocking me.

but anything floating around would be telekinesis

By Kimmie2463 on Sunday, January 27, 2002 - 10:32 pm:

Hi Brian... what else can you say about this Electrokenesis ?
Could that also have something to do with my not being able to wear watches?
(the kind that use batteries only) because they just "stop"?
But aren't batteries a separate type of energy than electricity...

By Brian on Sunday, February 3, 2002 - 12:54 pm:

i dont exactly beleive in electrokinesis, i agree mroe with the thought there is an imbalance of energy in your body...

By Kristin333 on Wednesday, February 13, 2002 - 10:05 pm:

That happens to me all the time!!!!This has been going on for months and at first I didn't think much about it, but after a while, I began to get a little freaked out. I can't believe someone else has experienced this as well. Early morning or early evening it doesn't matter. How bizzare!

By Brian on Saturday, February 16, 2002 - 04:59 pm:

yah,like, totally Gigi!

lol, j/k

Hi,
I got on to this site looking for this very topic. I also have this "problem", where I can either be driving, walking, or parked under one or more lights (mostly street lights)and they will turn off, one at a time as I move under them, until I go away... then they will turn back on a minute or two later. It seems to happen far too often for it to be a coincidence. Other people have noticed that this happens to me also. Is there anywhere I can go to get more info on the subject?

By Jimmy on Friday, March 1, 2002 - 01:24 am:

holy schikies! i just wrote this on the other link
"entities" hi all, i hope someone can help me out
here. i have been experiencing some electrical
paranormal.i dont recall when it all started
happening. but this is what has been happening
everytime i'm on the road while i'm driving there
would be a row of lamp posts some lit some not and
as i am driving by them they would either turn on
or off.i just find it weird that it happens only
as i get near them. i can almost predict which one
will flicker. it also happens while i'm walking on
the sidewalk too. plus i don't think it is just
lamp posts. i get a lot of static electricity and
get shocked a lot when i touch metal objects.
strange thing is i don't have rugs or carpets in
my house.i did get to talk to someone about this
in a chatroom he gave me an explanation, he said
someone that i know that had passed away is trying
to get in touch with me, and the electrical
experiences there way of trying to get the signal
out to me. can someone confirm. i'm very
curious,if you have an answer to this weird
experience feel free to send me an e mail at
noodle42@aol.com thank you

Hi my boyfriend has street lights go out on him when he stares at them.He messes up my computer by playing with it or freezes it up when a different room.He has trouble with light bulbs and batteries. He stops watches also. What do you people think?

By 2_much_time on Monday, April 1, 2002 - 12:38 am:

Hey all

Not to rain on your parade, but I do have some insight into your streetlights. I've had a career in general maintenance so I know some things about electricity.

The streetlights are probably not paranormal. All streetlights go out or dim from time to time. This is done to conserve electricity and to prevent the bulbs from generating to much heat thus giving them a longer life. You always notice the ones that go out around you but you don't notice the many that are lit around you all the time.

Just a professional warning. Be careful with the whole electric light, psycic experience thing. Many of these energies can be exsorcised by a good electrician. Just speaking from experience.

By Matissa on Friday, June 21, 2002 - 03:53 pm:

Hello Kevvick, to answer your question, there is a magnetic field within everyone. Many people can't wear watches or they have a problem with computers or other electrical devices. It's not a supernatural occurence, it's magnetic. Sorry to disappoint you. I hope this helps. I've had supernatural encounters since the age of 7, and this is not one of them. If you have any other quesions, please feel free to email me.

By JR on Thursday, June 27, 2002 - 12:32 pm:

I agree that there are logical explanations for the streetlights going out, such as timers and sensors...

But as far as human magnetic and/or electrical fields, I believe in that too.

For example, I was driving slowly through an apartment complex when a carload of kids passed and gave me a dirty look (probably because their car was a hotrod and mine was a piece of crap).

Anyway, I mumbled out loud, "what the f--k is your problem. Hope your f--king car breaks down."

Then I looked in my rearview mirror just as their tail lights flickered and winked out. I stopped my car for a few seconds and saw the kids empty out of the broken down car, shaking their heads in dismay.

As I continued driving, I looked in my rearview mirror again and saw them opening the hood, and I knew that their car was really broken down.

I'd attribute that one more to karma

By MajandraSky on Monday, October 7, 2002 - 11:38 pm:

Hi, i know some lights are on timers and what not, but i usually look at a light then it goes out... or once i looked at a transformer and it blew--sparks flying and everything.. that only happened once and it's not like i go around looking at lights to make them burn out... i usually don't even realize i'm looking up at a light, i just do then it goes out... or lights on store signs, etc.. i don't necessarily think i'm 'causing' this to happen, maybe i just know it's going to and i look over.. who knows... its weird though.. and i do have things happen with electricity like watches stopping, or radios messing up when i walk by.....

By Mybabematt on Thursday, November 14, 2002 - 05:06 am:

I normally have about 6 or more lights a night do this..........and my significant other thinks it is just my imagination

By Chrisanello on Tuesday, December 10, 2002 - 11:22 pm:

Hello!! Yes, this happens to me too. Where I live, there are a couple of street lights that just don't like me. If I pass by one at night (and am reasonably contious) it tends to go out. Once I get a good distance away (the car goes up the road, for example) it turns back on. Very annoying when trying to find the way home in super-fog.
Since transformers were mentioned... I am a high school student, and one day in the middle of class (it was PE. We were out on the football field) a huge raven starts circling. It tried to land on top of both "prongs" of a power transformer at once. There was a huge puff of smoke, and an explosion. Not quite paranormal, but it makes for a good story, doesn't it?

By DmonikNkripshn on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 01:32 am:

cool that's so ausome, so it is true what they said in Matrex we are human copper tops the only problem I have is blowing out electical components (3 computers 1 laptop, a frig, 1 toaster oven, 2 tv's, 4 radio's(one of which happens to my friends $300 car radio) etc..) and trust me it gets costly and irretating after a while(and you tend to loose a lot of friends that way)
I just wished the "spark" had some cool effects like in mutant x

By Sparkly51 on Sunday, May 11, 2003 - 02:49 pm:

Have any of you tried the experiments from the RetroPsychoKinesis Project and had superb results (as in greater than 1 in 5 chance three times in a row and/or greater than 1 in 20 chance within 10 tries)? Here's the link: http://www.fourmilab.ch/rpkp/

By Tinkerbell on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 - 02:23 am:

Wow. I can't believe there's an entire website on the very question I was asking myself tonight. Why do street lights go out every time I walk near or under them. This has been going on for approximatly two years now. I'm not convinced it's magnetic, nor has it anything to do with electrokinesis...But rather an entity, a demonic power...But I'll get back to you on that.

By Asddda on Sunday, March 21, 2004 - 03:17 pm:

fick you, electrokinesis is real, just take up a battery and visualize the energi flowing form the battery into your hands.......after that, you would be able to do a lot of staff!

By Sunnybeth on Thursday, April 29, 2004 - 09:26 pm:

okay. so i've been having this problem after I wake up from a deep sleep or from having nightmares. It's happened about 4 times now. I get up to turn on the lights in my bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, hallway, you name it. They burn out. At first I though, hmm the lights burned out. Must have been leaving them on too much, but after continuously shopping for light bulbs, I've started to wonder if it was the house. (Although it's never happened to my Fiance). I just woke up from a nap and it happened again!!! This time I felt a shock in my body. Curious (about maybe static electricity or something), I just went on a GOOGLE search and typed: lights burning out from people, and found this site as the second listing. Wow. Anyone else know what this is caused by?

By Trace on Thursday, June 3, 2004 - 04:45 pm:

Street lamps turn on via a photovoltic switch at dusk. When the ambient light reaches a set level the switch engages the electrical circuit that powers the bulb. When enough lumens from a light source such as your headlights impacts the photovoltic switch the connection to the power source is turned off. This could explain this phenomenon.
