kriss...
a few questions on Mina dos Estrellas cast 2...

1. major's crying... did mtv genuinely worry
about his safety/well-being or did they glorify
this for good show?

2. and the african-american girl who had to leave
the chicken downstairs for the nahual...
what happened to the chicken? nothing was shown.
also... her pictures? was anything on them?

3. another paranormal thing not shown was the
army guy down in the oven... and how the oven
doors were closed but nothing was shown of that
either?

i'm not trying to be skeptical, i do take your
word for in the fact that FEAR is real, but i was
just wondering...

Hey guys!
Brandon will e-mail his 'After Fear Story' if you E-mail him and ask for it. His story is very insightful-I cannot now watch another episode with the same eyes. Kriss, if you have read Brandon's story, I would be very interested in what you thought about it. It is almost as scary as another episode! His e-mail address is barocky69@aol-keep your e-mails short and polite, I think this helps him send it faster, and all of your questions and more will be answered.

also... kriss, i've read on your webpage about
"living with ghosts", but what happens if a
haunted house/place is torn down? what happens to
the ghost? where do they go?

By Pete-4N1 on Monday, April 8, 2002 - 03:42 am:

Why is it this season I believe there is only six episodes when last season there was 10 episode?

In the mine in Mexico with the second cast when “major” was the one in the drainage pit crying would that or would that not be extremely dangerous being left open and aware become very vulnerable of his environment

The episode in the jungle in Mexico wasn’t all that good their weren’t any ghostly activities or white orbs or any visual action or so compared to the first episode in the mines on this season.

In the first night when they have to go to sleep would the cast be aloud to go out of the safe house during the day to see more

Are their any investigators that had a chance to work on the St. Agnes “mental hospital” episode and got to speak with the cast after the show aired because theirs a scenes where there is a burnt plastic doll head with a body stuck to the ceiling in the underground hallway…and then on a bonus dare there seemed to be a featherless turkey in front of the door of that last room investigated

Has their been any case while any ghost hunt that any of you investigators heard your name said by ghost because on the first season on the military school episode after “holly” returns to the safe house after doing a dare were she held on two on wires anyway after she completes that dare and leaves in a hallway clearly you can hear a man whisper here name…now unless that has ever happen to any of the real ghost hunters then that would to have been doctored in then.

Can anyone confirm this…I read some where that the reason they didn’t disclose the correct location of the mental hospital on the first season and gave it the fake name of St. Agnes is one because people still live in there. Number two is because the reason the cast were not aloud upstairs in the actual hospital is because it was still being operated and having people live in it. Also I read on the same place that it gave the correct state and city and had a correct map of it and what highways that surrounded it. Believe the real location of the hospital is in Minnesota or Montana somewhere in the north Midwestern part it but I don’t remember which specific state or city anymore.

Why is it when ever I post something on the message board where the date is next to the clock/time this was written, is three hours ahead of my time? Does that mean this site is based in, New York City or something while I’m in California and are there any ghost investigators based in California.

Is this site linked to www.theshadowlands.net/ghost/?

Does anyone here believe in or know of “Sleep paralysis”, also known as “Old Hag”?

By Holly on Monday, April 8, 2002 - 07:28 pm:

I just read Brandon's after Fear story. It was very insightful and very scary at times. If the things that he says are true, and I do believe him, then I am somewhat irritated at MTV for their editing.

could one of u send it to me? roxyhottie90@hotmail.com

By Heather S. on Monday, April 8, 2002 - 10:00 pm:

I agree, Brandon's story was good. I can't believe what he went through, and I think that Mtv's editing took a lot away from what the real story was. I understand that they have to fit a time limit, but I think the show would be a lot better without all the editing.

By Keen1 on Monday, April 8, 2002 - 11:57 pm:

who's brandon?what a cast member of fear if so...which episode and what does he exactly say?

By Kriss on Tuesday, April 9, 2002 - 02:25 am:

Hey guys, can someone send it to me too? I am on the road, and I dont have very much time, but I would love to read it. Pretty please.

Oh, and I have noticed that if a haunted structure is demolished many times the ghosts will simply move to the closest building. Some ghosts hang outside, but many prefer structures, thats why they are found in caretakers shacks in cemeteries.

By Billybob21 on Thursday, April 11, 2002 - 02:36 am:

thanks for the email, that was pretty interesting about what he said happened. It sure did straiten some things up that weren't explained very well, also was he the one who posted an email on mtv.com? someone replied to that posting saying he would lose money. He didn't win any money didn't he? anywho. I think everyone is right, they really chopped that into a real soap opera.

P.S.
what happened to the chicken??

I absolutely loved that episode of Fear and I really felt for Brandon when I saw how real his fear was.

If it wouldn't be too much trouble, could some nice person from this forum send me a copy of that essay Brandon wrote. I really don't want to trouble him with an e-mail so if someone could send it to me , I would be very appreciative. :)

Thanks in advance

By MixxMaster on Friday, April 26, 2002 - 11:05 am:

WOW, I have really been hooked on this show, and this answers a lot of questions. Very scary stuff, and that episode was THE scariest, IMHO. I hope they go back again.
I also wonder why they left so much out. Imagine, each show has two nights worth of actual footage, with all those cameras available, not to mention the IR cameras and EM readings. Hopefully, at least a DVD would come out with a LOT more stuff.
I would rather they left a lot more in the show, and expand it to two hours, but they have to show their Eminem and J-Lo, not to mention the endless commmercials...
Oh, well. Regardless, this show has renewed my interest in the paranormal. I'm even planning on contacting some local "Ghost Hunters" in the state, and try to go along on an investigation.

can't someone just post his story in this thread? would save a lot of time & emails...

By MixxMaster on Monday, April 29, 2002 - 06:31 am:

OK, I hope I won't get in trouble for posting this, so I will say sorry in advance ;):

Hello everybody. This is Brandon from the part 2 Mina Dos Estrelles episode of Fear. I have gotten a lot of emails with a lot of questions to answer, and I figure the best way is to write a very long email to everyone instead of answering the same questions over and over individually. First, I would like to thank everyone for writing me, most of the email I get are very positive, and of course some negative, but that doesn't bother me. What does bother me is how mtv edited so much stuff and only captured a fraction of everything that went on in that mine. I really dont know where to begin, so I will just start from the beginning and go to the end, and randomly throwing in comments that pop into my head. I hope by the end of this email, the believers will believe even stronger, and the non believers will at least be closer to believing. I have so much to say about being down in that oven, but first things first. I tried out for the show in october of 2000 when I was living in Vegas. My cousin's girlfriend gave him a flier and told him to go try out. He asked me to go with him and tryout too. I thought it would be alot of fun so I went. It was at the Caesers Palace hotel at Planet Hollywood restaraunt. there probably was about 300 to 500 people who came. They did an initial interview, and selected maybe 100 to come back the next day and do an interview on camera. so I went the next day too and did that. I didn't hear back from them...for a week...2 weeks, a month...all the way up to 9 months. I was living back in California, and in july of 2001, I get a call that I am one of the finalists to be on an upcoming show of Fear. Then a couple days later, I was sitting in my living room and I get a call asking if I wanna fly to mexico city the next morning and be on Fear. I was like "Hell Yeah!". So the next morning, I flew Mexicana airlines from SFO to Mexico City, mtv paid for it. They told me that I would be going to the Mexico City Sheraton and that when I got off the plane to look for someone with my name on a sign. So I did that...and I saw a mexican woman about my age with a sign that had my name on it. Then I followed her to her car outside and I was taken by surprise, because I expected a producer from the show to pick me up. not like I expected to ride in a limo, but at least a company car owned by mtv...but I got in some local girls hooptie and we started driving. I asked her some questions and then she told me that she wasn't allowed to talk to me. As we drove through Mexico City, I realized that we weren't going to the Sheraton...matter of fact, we drove about 2 1/2 hours after Mexico City, and to this small, little motel. There I got out and a mexican man told me to follow him up to my room. I got up there and he said to me, "You must stay in this room, you cannot use the phone, and you cannot look out the window. We have people outside making sure that you don't look out the window." This was at about 9 pm. He also went through my bag and took my magazines, camera, and basically everything but clothes. He said he would be back in the morning to give me breakfast and then he left. The room had no tv, no radio, no clock, no telephone, and I couldn't look out the window. Basically just a bed and a bathroom. I was also given a book all about hauntings and ghost stories to read. That night it was very hard to sleep. Finally, around 8 or 9 am or so I got breakfast, and then 2 doctors came in to check me out, then a camera guy came in and showed me how to use the cameras and how to change the tapes and batteries. I was standing in my boxers the whole time during this! Then a lady came in and talked to me about how the last cast quit and that she was so terrified of the mine, and the locals gave her this good luck necklace... and then I had to sign a contract saying that mtv is not liable in anyway if I get injured, suffer physcological problems, or if I die out there in the mine. then I had to bring the camera into the bathroom and talk into it. thats what you saw on tv. I basically just put on a show and talked like I was all crazy! And by the way, I didn't tell them to put I was a former tank operator in the army. I told them that I was a spa delivery driver and an aspiring gambler. I don't like how mtv made me out to be this big tough "army boy". That's not what I wanted at all. I had been out of the army a good year when I filmed that anyways. then finally a lady came up and said it was time to go. She put a blindfold on me and a potato bag on my head and took me outside to the van where the other 5 were waiting. "No talking the whole way" the driver said. Finally we reached this hill, and they brought us around to this fire and this spiritual guy, who you saw on the first episode of Mina. I didn't like how mtv didn't show us around the fire also. I briefly met the cast and then the man talked to us, and then had us each give him something dear to us. I gave him my scorpion chain that I said in the beginning that would protect me. Then we had the bags put back on our heads and went to the mine. They brought us in the safehouse, sat us on these logs...and had us count to 700, yes 700, slowly and take our hoods off. To me it sounded like we were outside cause there was a little stream of water behind us and we were sitting on a log, and then when I finally took my hood off, I was shocked to see where I was and what our "safehouse" was. A small little cave with crazy statues everywhere. Then we saw the last crew on the tv, what they said, and then the history of the mine. The we picked colors and it came down to blue and red, and I picked blue cause that's my color. The dares started and Major and Tiffany went out. They completed theirs and came back. Then it was my turn. I had to go to the oven room alone. And people, there is ONE man from mtv right outside the safehouse who checks your cameras to make sure they are working before you go out on a dare, and also to be there so he can call help back at the hotel if somebody gets hurt or quits. so I went out. Now being in the safehouse was ok, because you had people there and there was light...but once you step outside...it is unbelievable. The wind, the trees, the darkness. It was PITCH black outside, and to make it worse, we had this light shining right in our eyes blinding us. So somehow I made to the oven room, went down the steps, and walked to the very last oven. I still didn't suspect what I was about to be told to do. Now I was also given a very heavy bag to bring, but I didn't look inside of it. So then my navigator, Major, told me the story of the oven, and that I had to get inside of it. I then tried to lower myself in it, but I couldn't feel the bottom of it with my feet, so I pulled myself out. I seriuosly almost just dropped down in there. they didn't get that on tape. then I came on the radio and said that I couldnt even see the bottom and that I almost just died from jumping in there. if I had have done that, it would be at least an hour for help to get there, and then how would they get me out..a crane? Then where would they take me....the nearest emergency room was so far away. But mtv didn't decide to air that. So then major comes on the radio is like "Oh yeah...you are supposed to look in your bag and pull out the ladder and climb down that". I had to take ALL my equipment off and just go down with my walkie talkie. I got to the bottom and couldn't believe what the hell I was doing. then I had I had to be there for 3 HOURS in radio silence. that was insane. so I was down in there, I had the light up above from my camera shining in..then about 30 to 45 minutes into it, I heard footsteps out of the blue come up and it kicked my camera over so I couldnt see the light anymore. That freaked me out. I yelled,"Who the FU.. is that?!" then I regrouped and remained calm. I can't remember all the things I was thinking down there. at one point I had to think...Right now, I am somewhere in Mexico, at some supposed haunted abandones cave mine, 20 feet deep in an oven where children died and spirits used to light the thing...on mtv... unbelievable. I was hearing loud banging, crashing, scraping, howling, the wind, the trees, rumbling of the sky...just to name a few. the banging and crashing was so loud that it sounded like a gunshot or a semi crashing into another. I heard wolves...I even heard a growl of something I couldn't classify as human or animal. Then finally raquel was sent to go down to the oven room. When she finally got down there and I heard her voice, I was so happy and relieved. I was thinking they sent her down there to come relieve me or to go back with me or something! Then all of a sudden major said, "White, you must now pull up blue's ladder!!!" that was insane. So she pulled it up and then she had to go over to the hospital. She was so nice to me, and so funny on the radio, and the calmness in her voice and bravery made me feel so much better. I wouldn't rather have had anyone else down there. oh yeah before she left to go to the hospital....she had to lower me down my camera...and then a small bag...now in that small bag was an envelope...which mtv never showed...and it was actually the scariest part of the whole dare...and mtv never showed it so...I get this envelope, and I cant open it until raquel is up in the hospital. So she gets up there, and goes in and lays on the bed, which I might say had to be so crazy considering the last cast, 3 people wouldn't even go in the hospital and quit. So she has to put a bandage covering her eyes, and lay there in radio silence too. So then I'm told to open the envelope and follow the instructions. The envelope read: You must read this page word for word OUTLOUD...You are now going to wakeup and contact the childrens' spirits...you must now say outloud your deepest, darkest, childhood secret...so I started talking and then something slowly shut the right side of the oven doors...I stopped talking and yelled, "Who is that!?"..I maintained my composure and 5 or so minutes later I continued reading...Then...something below me on the other side of the wall ran up and starting crashing into the oven like it was trying to get to me...it was growling like an evil beast or the devil would growl, and it was like it was backing up, then charging, crashing into the wall over and over...thats when I told it that I am not here to harm it, and I even tried to continue reading the paper, and that's when whatever was down there trying to get to me ran 20 feet up the wall in about 2 or 3 seconds and slammed the living hell out of the second door, with rocks and dirt coming down on my head...I thought the damn thing was gonna light on fire and/or that I was about to die and my survival insticts kicked in and I was clutching the walkie talkie as my only lifeline and I came on and said the something just slammed the doors on me...and then...they didn't put this on tape...but the first thing major said was "You have broken radio silence, you are disqualified"...so then knowing I was disqualified I came on and said,"Well, if I am disqualified, then someone come and get me the hell out of here...and he kept saying standby..standby...standby...like 5 or 6 times...everytime I came on....he said standby, we are checking to see what we can do...so I came on and said, "Tell me if I am disqualified or not, you said I am, so get me the hell out of here..." "standby". So then I said, "OK...if I come on the radio ONE MORE TIME...someone is gonna come get me the hell out of here right away"...then there was silence for about 3 minutes... then the light went out on my camera, and my body went numb. Just all of a sudden, a rush of intense coldness come over me and I seriously felt frozen...now I don't know what it was, but it was like that for a couple of minutes...and I came on the radio.."My light went out, I am in complete darkness, I can't feel my body...come get me the FU.. out right now..." then all of a sudden, I hear my guardian angel Raquel come on and say that she would come and get me out. Now let's get something straight. Raquel would NOT have left had I not came on there like that. She was the strongest, bravest, and most grounded person on that show by far. She is the real winner of the show...and no amount of money is worth what she did for me. It's amazing that you can know someone for 5 hours or so and something happening like that can bring you to love them. It showed me that compassion for another human being overpwers greed anyday and that lesson she taught is something I will take with me forever and is worth than any amount of money. I already told her that if I ever get rich or come into alot of money that I will give her the 5,000 because she is the true winner and the hero of the show. There isnt anything I wouldn't do for that girl. I am still in contact with her and with Tiffany. I bonded with them, and not the others. but Raquel is the HERO of the show and she is such a beautful, good person. So she got down to the oven room, and when I saw her I have honestly never been happier to see anyone in my life. she was so calm and she kept saying that she was there and its ok and she took that heavy-ass ladder and lowered it down to me...and I got out and we walked back to the safehouse holding hands and happy that we were leaving, because we did not need to be there disturbing the things that were there. Tiffany was very smart and brave too. Tiffany was so nice to me and she is so sweet and a really good person also, and I don't wanna see anything negative said about her. So Raquel and I clicked out, walked out of the safehouse, and waited to get taken back to the motel. We got there and not too long after Tiffany joined us. So that was it. I was chain smoking raquels' cigarettes at the motel, and I wasn't a smoker before I got there! I didn't say much after that for a couple days because I was still in shock, not just of the oven, but of the whole experience. Then a day later we met back at the fire and got reunited with Adesina, Major, and Jason. Now also I wanna clear something up. I've been reading the boards...and its mtv's fault..but Jason DID have a dare, but they chose not to show it for some unknown reason. Like I said, mtv or any reality tv show, will portray you and make you look however mtv feels like making you look...they made me look like "tough army boy", and Major look like a cry baby, and Jason look like he didn't do anything to get the money. his dare was that he had to go in some cave or something and chop down the nahual's "house" with an ax. ..and then turn his back to the entrance for like 15 minutes. Now that's pretty brave. I also had a chance to get to know him a little at the airport later, and he is a really nice, cool guy with a big heart. Just so you know, he did earn that money. Adesina was nice to me, and her dare was also pretty crazy. Also, she was craving a cigarette in the safehouse and then all of a sudden it started to smell like smoke so bad that the one camera guy came in and said, "No smoking"...but nobody was. It was some evilness doing that. Then also...it started smelling alot like chicken...and then her dare involved a chicken...and also, when raquel was in the hospital...when she heard the horses hooves sound...in the safehouse there was a picture of and evil creature with like a wolf face...but it had horse legs and hooves on it...she said she also heard bottles being thrown near her and the same banging and crashing sounds that I did...and she had to be blindfolded the whole time!!! it's just frustrating that mtv didn't show but maybe 40 percent of what went on in my oven, and probably like 10 percent of what went on in the mine. They could have a whole new show on just the things that edited that would have a lot more people believing, and have everyone saying that my episode was the craziest, scariest one in the history of reality television...because it was. Also it made me mad that mtv didnt show the outside camera on the oven when the door slammed shut. 99% of the people I have heard or talked to say that "mtv slammed those doors"...and they call my episode the door slamming episode and that it was the most fake. That is so far from the truth that it's sad, and I dont blame the people, I blame mtv. They shouldn't edit anything. I don't know why they did..I think it cost them ratings. but also to answer a question...when I was down there in the oven...I did not have a watch, so I didn't know how long I had been there. Every minute seemed like an hour to me...so for all I knew I was down there like 45 minutes or an hour and a half. And even if I did know that I had been there 2 hours and 13 minutes, I still would have done what I did with no regrets in the world. I wouldn't change any of that for the world... and I am glad and satisfied with how I looked on there, except that I was made to be this army boy figure. And to answer the question about what if you had to use the bathroom down there...well I can't remember if I did, I think I had to pee, but I had so much other stuff going on in my mind and I can hold it for a looooong time! and to the people that say: "If I was down in that oven for that long, I would have just layed down and gone to sleep..." LOL! that is the funniest thing I've ever heard! give me a break. Even if you wanted to sit down, you couldn't cause it's so narrow and skinny down there...cause I tried! Well, unless I can think of more to say...thats all the basics I can think of right now...anymore questions...I will be happy to answer and thank you for taking time to write me and I'm sorry if I havent gotten back to you right away. Take care and email me or instant message me anytime. I would love to talk.
Thank you very much.
Brandon

Yes, it's all one big paragraph, but it was even worse when I got it, bad spelling, etc...so I cleaned it up, didn't take anything out, though...
and, once again, I hope Carla and Kriss won't mind that I did this...

Thanks, MixxMaster! I, too, had e-mailed Brandon, but he has not responded yet, and I didn't want to bother him anymore (I figure he's got his hands kinda full right now!)

By Mlr on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 - 12:25 am:

i'm the one that asked that someone post it, so if anyone wants to be mad, they should be mad with me. :)
not like people couldn't email brandon or anyone that had the story to get it anyway.
i think if anything, his account only helps carla & kriss in their efforts to assure us that embellished stories or not, these places have a history & unexplainable events to boot.
and after reading... all i can say is, brandon deserved that money. his experience was very real & very dangerous. moreso than any of the others i've seen so far (of course, that might have to do with editing...). given mtv isn't "fixing" things, & the cameras were outside the oven were "not functioning" like they've said, they shouldn't punish him for breaking radio silence. i don't think anyone could have gone thru that & just sat it out. to me, that's a sign that my life is truly in danger. and w/ no one close by to observe that? you can bet your sweet butt i'd be using my walkie talkie!
anyway. i'm rambling. thanks so much for posting.
one thing i don't understand... if spirits can drain camera & light batteries, how come the walkie's never go out? aren't they battery operated as well???

By Hyperflip on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 - 05:41 am:

Great posts. Very interresting post from Brandon.
I am an idie filmmaker and I found out one of my
fellow film friends has assited in some way to one
of the shows. I wont say which since he was bound
by contract not to say anything, and I do not want
him to get in trouble for my post. I do recall
him saying that GHOST BOOKS and HORROR NOVELS were
used durring the initial isolation phase before
bringing them to the site. He would not say if
there was rigging of effects, but he did say there
was a lot of mind games played on cast members.
Makes ya think considering that there was a MTV
guy right outside the safe house.

By MixxMaster on Wednesday, May 1, 2002 - 07:48 am:

Hey Mlr, I pretty much agree with you. I would've been a nervous freaken wreck, considering I'm VERY claustrophobic, but to hear those sounds BELOW me, when I'm over 20 feet down, with NO WAY OUT??!! NO WAY!!!
It always amazes me when someone goes,"Oh, well, I'm older and wiser. They couldn't scare me." OH, PLEASE...One door slam, and they would be on that radio so quick, their heads would spin(No, not like in the Poltergeist movie)..
Now, if only more former cast member would come forth with THEIR After-FEAR experiences...
Actually, I think it would be great if they had a quick self-interview like they do in the beginning of the show, after each dare. Get the details and observations while the memory's fresh...
By the way, What happened to at the end of the show, each cast member gives their opinion on whether they feel the place is truly haunted??
I felt that lent some meaning and purpose, instead of, "YAY, we won $5,000 dollars!!!"

I have to say, I'm also a big fear fan and have been watching since the first season. When I was at home watching the first MINA, safe in my living room, I got chill bumps. The second Mina was just as good, but to me, they went downhill from there. I have been reading MTV Fear board and have also been reading here, but have been quiet. I have heard that Brandon had written his story and I am so glad that someone put it up to read. I'm a 42, so quite a bit older than most that watch fear. If brandon reads this, I want to thank him for his honesty and bravery. It's given me a new outlook on the show. I hope that "the powers that be at MTV" read some of this and take note.. we want to see more than the kids screaming and running. I do hope that they decide to continue with a third season... I know where I'll be every Sunday night at 7:00. Just my two or three cents :)
