FEAR: This show was close to greatness.....

Fear's first episode at WV State pen. was great, excatly what a show called "fear" should be. The other shows seem to have gotten into slumber party dares...getting buried in a coffin, laying under a falling array of spikes, stepping in sewer. Hey, this stuff would be odd in any situation, not just on a show called "fear". I would like to see fear get back to getting close to paranormal activity, actually having the team being afraid of the haunting instead of grabbing onto an exposed electric wire....sheesh. Still its a show I love.

I didnt work on the first show, but I know that the producer, Jonas Larsen, had several months to prepare that for that shoot. We have an average of three weeks to prepare for the ones we do now, and only 10 days at the location itself.

Jonas is a great producer. He did a fantastic job with WV State. He also did the USS Hornet and the plantation, as well as some others.

You have to keep in mind Daxx, this is a television show. I'm sure the producers, crew, etc. would love to do hard core investigating, but they also have to keep in mind what the MTV audience wants to see. They want to see young girls screaming, people fleeing in terror, and creaking doors with phantoms behind it. lol No ratings, no show. Maybe you could try to get on the show, and be one of the few cast members who aren't there just to win money. You could be one of the really cool ones who actually go into the scary places and ask if there's anyone there. lol (Nothing against you and your job Kriss. You're obviously a very cool guy. And you do a great job keeping up with what people think.)

Okay, okay, okay....I can say when I first posted I was a little upset that FEAR was getting the run around with it's time slots and disappearing acts. I understand this is due to MTV's choices and not the producer(s) of the show "FEAR". Still I believe it had the potential to attract a cult following (if I may be so bold) and bring back a lot of aged out MTV'rs. The anticts on the show seemed to cheapen the affect of the show, even if to draw a teen-aged, early post teen viewer group. Don't get me wrong, I still like the show. I would just venture to bet that there is a larger market for it outside of the MTV present generation. I will keep watching......

I absolutely agree Dexx.
On one hand, they could do a better job. Include older people, make it more scientific (something resembling a real investigation, not the slumber parties I went to as a young girl), try to steer clear of the parlor tricks like when they lay on the deceased's beds. Why not just go to the mirror and repeat Bloody Mary over and over? lol
On the other hand, they always have to keep in mind what the MTV viewers want to see. And you have to admit, watching these girls and boys have a total breakdown on t.v. isn't wholly unpleasant. Hee hee.
Besides, like I said, no rating, no show. We'll just have to suffer through the stuff we don't like, and keep our fingers crossed that they hear us older people wanting a chance to do some real investigating. (By the way, I could've sworn Kriss said the contestants could be 18-25. Now it's 18-23.)

I agree with both of you. I would love to see the show get serious, but the point is to be entertaining, so screaming chicks running around like idiots are the thing. However, I can tell you all that they have promised to make this season more investigative. The locations are genuinely majorly haunted.

Not that it matters, but I'm a girl.

I am an older person (42) and enjoy the program, however what would really improve the quality of the show is when there is some action going on, it would be nice to break away and have the contestant explain what they were experiencing, otherwise all the screaming becomes boring and repetitive without explaination

Hopefully we will get to do a show like that again. We did "Faces of Fear", which was in that light, but this time we are kicking around the idea of talking to the kids from a strictly paranormal standpoint.

Have you guys ever considered doing a parent's episode? Have all the kids parents go (of one of the casts instead of their kids). Bet it would get good ratings.

By Kriss on Thursday, March 28, 2002 - 10:26 pm:

I think thats a great idea, I know I have talked with them about a ghosthunters show, with real ghosthunters. I will tell my boss about this, I'll let you know what he says.

Think the whole point of Fear is that they are not professionals, they are not used to it. It would definitely be interesting to see a group of previous contestants parents have to do it. Best thing is you wouldn't even have to scout a new location. Have the parents do exactly what their kids did and let's see who's more afraid.

Speaking of things concerning KRISS. Hey Kriss, you know we love you to pieces at ParaSEEK, but I know you work your tale off answering questions and all the ParaSEEK visitors appreciate you. Is there anyone else on the staff that can visit here from time to time or are they all afriad of email?

my best as always,
Will JP (ParaSEEK webmaster)

Well, as far as others go, they are all tech people and office people, they arent very knowledgeable when it comes to the paranormal, they tend to stay away from the message boards. I have my three that I check, not only to answer questions but to get location ideas, so see, I have an agenda. :)
